Brief History...

Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat is a collective effort made by a group of developers. Our goal is to create an immersive and enjoyable first-person-shooter with next-generation production values based on Valve Software's Source Engine.

It all started when, back in 2002, Andrew "Argyll" Spearin begun his basic training for the Canadian Army. Spearin's idea was to create a first-person-shooter that could get right some of the things other shooters seemed to have gotten wrong: realism, immersive gameplay and teamwork were the key values of this initial vision.

As a result, Insurgency Team set out to design and create an online multiplayer game that featured squad-based gameplay, a realistic setting, and a feeling of scale representing that of a real war environment. Jeremy Blum, the original founder and director of Red Orchestra, also contributed decisively with his ideas and outstanding work to the development of Insurgency. The list of contributors and developers is endless, and they're all to be credited for their achievements.

Insurgency Team has tried to shape the mod around this original vision, and transform it into what it is now. During all this time, INS has become a huge project on a global scale. Many developers and contributors, from all over the world, have added to the overall experience - quite a few of them have become professionals in the videogame industry thanks, at least partially, to their work and the experience gained by being part of the Insurgency Team. Right now, Insurgency enjoys a loyal player base, a thriving community, a dedicated and stable group of developers and a constant flow of updates and releases that have consolidated this mod as one of the top Source mods available.

Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat has received the Player's Choice 2007 Mod of the Year award from ModDB, as well as the "Best Source Mod of 2007" Gold Award from Steamfriends. The current development plans of this total conversion include new theatres, a jump to the current Orange Box engine, and a constant flow of updates and improvements that will carry Insurgency into the next generation.

The Concept...

Insurgency's primary concept is to create an immersive online combat experience for the player, with an emphasis on teamwork and realistic elements to create intense firefights in detailed environments. Insurgency is designed as a modular game split into Operational Theatres: The first of them, already released, is set during the present war in Iraq, after the fall of the government and the end of major combat operations. The second theatre, now under development, is based on a yet-undisclosed Eastern European conflict. Other theatres and settings are planned in the future!

INS is a fun and unique gaming experience. If your play style is geared towards using real tactics, teamwork, communication, and personal skill, the conventional armies' side will probably be your favorite. If you prefer to get into the action and have some fun, grab your AK47 or RPG and let loose as a guerrilla or paramilitary fighter. Assymetrical combat, and different -but equally challenging- gameplay styles are the key for an ever-changing game environment that will please both hardcore-tactical and casual gamers.

Welcome to 21st Century Warfare

Insurgency (INS) is a total conversion based on Valve Software's Source Engine. Insurgency immerses you into an intense multiplayer combat experience.

Set on the modern battlefields, Insurgency simulates modern infantry combat that doesn’t just encourage the use of teamwork and tactics, but makes it a requirement of survival. The current Operational Theatre lets you go head to head with guerrillas, insurgents and resistance fighters in Iraq and Afghanistan; placing you in the center of current conflicts like no other first-person-shooter. Immersive suppresion fire and damage effects, 1-shot-1 kill dynamics, and accurate weaponry ensure a pace and a dramatic tension that few other games can match.

Engage in urban warfare where every window, doorway or road block is a potential ambush point and every object on the street needs to be watched with care. Large outdoor maps with several different routes offer tactical challenges. In INS, teamwork means victory. Whatever you choose to do, Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat is sure to get your pulse racing and make your breathing feel heavy while you engage in such a unique and original combat experience. Insurgency has it's own pace, it's own rules, and it's own kind of player. If you think you've got what it takes, jump in!

The Battlefields...

Insurgency will take you across modern battlefields, engaging in intense firefights and battles as a member of either a highly organized and equipped conventional force or as an unconventional fighter. Whatever side you choose, Insurgency will offer you an accurate representation of modern weaponry and infantry combat tactics. Focus on the game, not on the controls, focus on the action, not on the interface. Use your instinct, seek cover, lay suppressive fire or deploy smoke to protect the advance of your team. Focused on teamwork, INS will allow you to lead your teammates into the battlefield or to become a key part of your squad.

Players will find themselves caught in explosive battles across Almaden, Baghdad, Haditha, Karkar, Ramadi, Hillah, Abdallah, Buhriz... and many other locations. It will force you to move through dusty, battered streets, to take cover behind vehicles and inside store fronts, to fight in the narrow streets of an old town, the squares of Baghdad, or the open countryside areas of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Keep your eyes open for the enemy as you and your team set out to accomplish the mission objectives. Like in real war, it takes real skill and experience to know whether you've managed to neutralize a threat or if, on the contrary, you're just about to be ambushed. Advance, capture the objectives, defend your position and your teammates until the last drop of blood, and you will be rewarded with victory.
